Utopia - Earth Day Planting
April 21, 2024
About 25 folks came out to the Utopia property for an Earth Day event - planting trees and shrubs and clipping back blackberry.  It started with some dribbles of rain but progressed to a nice day.  We are filling in an area that has seen previous plantings.
Thanks Everybody!
A portion of Wiseman Creek runs through the property - here is a view from the footbridge near the entry.  Looking East.
Some previous plants are thriving, others not!
Today's plantings are an "experiment."

Little trees are paired and tagged.  One will be planted normally and the other with a cup of "biochar" included.  Progress can be monitored!

Biochar holds water like a sponge, where plant roots can access it when they need it. This is especially helpful during periods of hot, dry soil conditions.
Biochar helps conserve plant nutrients by storing them and making them readily available when plants need them.

We will add protectors and stakes.
Berry clipping and trimming.
Clever help for berry working!
